Rahu & Ketu: Understanding the Karmic Shadow Planets

The lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu are not physical planets, yet they shape obsession, ambition, fear and liberation. Here is how the shadow planets steer your karma.

Rahu and Ketu are the two points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's, the *lunar nodes*. They have no physical body, which is why they are called *chhaya grahas*, the shadow planets. Yet in a Kundli they are often the most decisive forces of all, because they describe your karmic axis: what you are here to chase, and what you are here to release.

    Rahu, the north node

Rahu is hunger. It amplifies, magnifies and obsesses. Wherever Rahu sits, you feel a restless craving, for status, wealth, foreign lands, fame, technology. Handled well, Rahu delivers extraordinary worldly success. Handled poorly, it brings confusion, addiction and never-enough dissatisfaction.

    Ketu, the south node

Ketu is the opposite pole: detachment, mastery and *moksha*. It marks the area of life you have already perfected in past lives, so you may neglect or feel indifferent to it now. Ketu gives intuition, research ability and spirituality, but also sudden losses that push you inward.

    The axis you are balancing

Rahu and Ketu always sit exactly opposite each other. Your soul's task is to grow toward the Rahu house *without abandoning* the wisdom of the Ketu house. That tension, gently resolved, is spiritual maturity.

    When they get active

Their effects peak during Rahu or Ketu Mahadasha/Antardasha and during nodal transits. These periods feel fated, chance meetings, abrupt turns, doors opening and closing on their own.

    Traditional remedies

    • For Rahu: Chant "Om Raam Rahave Namah"; donate mustard oil, black sesame or a blanket on Saturdays.
    • For Ketu: Chant "Om Kem Ketave Namah"; feed dogs; keep a multi-coloured cloth at your worship space.
    • Worship Bhairav and Lord Ganesha before any nodal remedy.

Never wear a Hessonite (Gomed) or Cat's Eye gemstone on guesswork, nodal stones are powerful and must follow a proper chart analysis. Book a consultation before you begin. ॐ नमो नारायण 🙏
